| Won car of the year in 1990 in every major magazine that had such a category. Was in C&Ds top 10 every year of production (top 10 of all cars, not just sports cars). During the first few years of production, was called the best handling production car in the world second to nothing in dozens of publications. In 1990 and 1991 it had no competition of any sort(except maybe the ZR1). Nothing came close. In 1991 the VR4 came out but it wasn't really close. In 1992, the viper came out and this was the first real competition as it bested the Z in straight line but still lost in handling. Then in 1993, the first real competition was the Supra Turbo. Stock vs stock, they were very close, but the Supra quickly gained the lead in reputation as it was easy to make much more power in stock trim by just upping boost. The 3rd gen ZXTT had one of the longest production runs of any sports cars. The ZXTT and Miata single handedly revived the sports car market. The Miata witth the roadster segment and the Z with the GT sports car segment.
